A crackdown by the UP Government on the organisations issuing Halal certificates
Companies producing edible items, beauty products, etc. were issued Halal certificates. In November 2023, Yogi Adityanath Government directed action against such organisations. After this, Lucknow Police lodged FIRs against Islamic Organisations issuing Halal certificates.
What is a Halal certificate ?
Halal and Haram are Arabic terms that are well-known and frequently used in Islam. The words Halal and Haram are the usual terms used in the Quran to designate the categories of lawful or allowed and unlawful or forbidden respectively. In Islam, the word Halal is primarily used in the context of eatables and liquid items.
‘Halal’ products are given certificates to generate thousands of Rupees from the Companies. These ‘Halal’ certificates are given to export items to Islamic Countries and also to items sold in India.
Islamic organisations which issue Halal certificates want to establish a brand new Islamic ecosystem, from designing and manufacturing to the retail distribution of various products and services. However, they cannot challenge established global or local brands such as McDonald’s, Dominos, Cadbury, Nestlé, BIG COLA, Kellogg’s, Haldiram’s, Bikano, Vadilal Ice Cream, Amul, Daawat Basmati Rice, Fortune Oil, Amrutanjan Balm, Parle Biscuits. These Islamic organisations cannot offer alternative products of the same or better quality. Moreover, secular Governments across the world do not allow companies to hire only Muslim employees. Therefore, traders in such countries and those who export to Islamic countries are forced to obtain Halal Certification which comes at a hefty price. Since these businesses have to forcibly spend to obtain the Halal compliance status, the Halal economy is continuing to grow stronger.
Editorial Perspective
There is evidence that a maximum number of Islamic organisations are funding terrorists in the name of Halal certificate. Yogi Adityanath’s Government deserves an applause for this crackdown on traitors. Hindus wish that other States follow the same action plan. |
