We will not accept Rohingyas in the country as they have become a burden for us : Bangladesh

New Delhi – Obaidul Quader, the Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, who is also General Secretary of the Awami League, stated, “We won’t allow any Rohingya to enter the country. Once we opened the border liberally, but there is no opportunity to show that generosity again. Rohingyas have become a burden for us. The amount of International Aid for the Rohingya has decreased significantly. How long would we carry this burden in this situation ?” Quader stated.

Rohingyas are dangerous for our security

Bangladesh’s Refugee Assistance and Extradition Commissioner Mohammed Mizanur Rahman said, “The ongoing war between the Government and rebels in Myanmar has led to thousands of people gathering at the Myanmar border to enter Bangladesh. Most of them are Chakma community people and Rohingyas. Bangladesh is already under the burden of Rohingya. It has been seven years since this incident and still the Rohingyas in Bangladesh have not been sent back to their country. Now these people have become dangerous for us, for our security.”

Editorial Perspective

It is estimated that more than eight lakh Rohingya Muslims have been living as refugees in Bangladesh for the past few years. It is clear from their behaviour that Bangladesh is not ready to allow more Rohingyas. Considering this, it is worth pondering – When will the Rohingyas who are in India be expelled ?
