It is beneficial to eat with hands rather than a spoon ! – Research by Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay

Spiritual Research by Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay

‘Food is a basic need of man. The food we eat and how it is eaten have an effect on our body, mind and intellect. In the Hindu dharma, the act of eating is called ‘Yajna karma’. In the same way as oblations are offered into a sacrificial fire with hands, food too is eaten with hands since ages.

However in current times, the trend of eating with a spoon is seen everywhere. Eating with hands is important from the aspect of Sattvikta (purity). All the actions we perform have an effect on our subtle energy.

Scientific research was conducted using the Universal Aura Scanner (UAS) to study ‘How one’s subtle energy (aura) is affected by eating with a spoon and eating with hands’

The Universal Aura Scanner (UAS) was developed in 2005 by Dr. Mannem Murthy, a former nuclear scientist from Telengana. By using this instrument the energy and the aura of an object, a premises, an animal or an individual can be measured.

1. Observations in the study

Two individuals (1 individual with severe spiritual distress and 1 individual with no distress) were asked to eat a certain meal with a spoon on the first day and with hands on the next day. UAS readings were taken before the meal and 20 minutes after the meal on both the days. Analysis of the observations of the study is given below.

Individuals eating the meal Negative Energy aura (metres) Positive energy aura (metres)
Before eating After eating Before eating After eating
1. Individual with severe spiritual distress who ate the meal
A. Eating with a spoon 643 1494 0 0
B. Eating with hands 647 522 0 1.94
2. Individual with no spiritual distress who ate the meal
A. Eating with a spoon 71.80 195.60 1.58 0
B. Eating with hands

33.60

2.16 3.74 12.72

Note – The present times being raja- tama predominant, an individual’s mind, intellect and body are covered by raja- tama vibrations. Therefore, the individual with no spiritual distress was also found to have distressing vibrations. To protect oneself from such distressing vibrations, one should try to intermittently use spiritual measures like applying Holy ash (vibhuti), sprinkling cow’s urine (gomutra), chanting, singing or playing stotra (Holy hymn), etc.

1 A. Eating with a spoon destroys the positive energy aura of an individual with a high increase in the negative energy aura :  It is noted from the above observations that by eating with a spoon, the negative energy aura of both, the individual with severe spiritual distress and the one with no distress, increased to a large extent. Also, the positive energy aura of the individual with no spiritual distress completely disappeared.

1 B. By eating with hands, the negative energy aura of the individual decreased and positive energy was generated or increased : From the above observations, it is noted that by eating with hands, the negative energy aura of the individual with severe spiritual distress as well the one with no distress reduced. Also, in the individual with severe spiritual distress, positive energy aura was generated and the positive energy aura of the individual with no spiritual distress, increased.

2. Conclusions of the study

Eating with a spoon affected the subtle energy of both the individuals, negatively. On the contrary, eating with hands affected the subtle energy of both the individuals positively. From this, it is proved that eating with a spoon is harmful, whereas eating with hands is beneficial.

3. Spiritual analysis of the observations in the study

3 A. Importance of eating with hands  : While eating with hands, the Divine energy in the fingers enters the stomach. There is a constant flow of Divine energy from the palms to the fingers. While eating with hands, the fingers touch the mouth repeatedly so any negative energy formed in the fingers is destroyed by the Divine energy from the palms. Also the Jiva is benefitted by the Divine energy and the fingers get charged with Divine energy.’

Reference : Sanatan’s Holy text : ‘Conduct during and after meals’

3 B. Reason behind the increase in positive energy aura of the individual by eating with hands : According to Yoga – Shastra (science), the five fingers namely the thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger and the little finger represent respectively the five Cosmic principles, namely Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. While eating with hands, we join all the five fingers together to hold the food, so through the medium of the fingers, we get energy (Chaitanya). In this study the individuals received Chaitanya while eating with hands, hence their negative energy aura reduced and positive energy aura increased.

3 C. Reason for the increase in the negative energy aura of the individuals by eating with a spoon : After eating with hands, one feels satiated, which does not happen after eating with a spoon. The spiritual benefit that is derived on eating with hands is not experienced when eating with a spoon. After eating with a spoon, the covering of distressing vibrations around both the individuals in the study increased and was seen in the readings.

4. An appeal to the readers –  Avoid using a spoon, rather eat with hands !

By eating with a spoon, the distressing vibrations in the individual increase a lot and the positive energy aura reduces or disappears. Over time, its negative effect is seen in the individual’s health. By merely eating once with a spoon the two individuals were negatively affected. Imagine how much negative effect it could have on individuals eating with a spoon daily. It is preferable to eat with hands instead of using a spoon !

If eating with a spoon is unavoidable for any reason then we should eat with a prayer to God and by chanting simultaneously.

In general, while eating a meal even with hands, we should eat after praying and with chanting, to derive more spiritual benefit from the meal.

  • Individual spiritual experiences of seekers published here are according to the Principle – ‘Where there is bhav (Spiritual emotion), there is God’.
  • It is not that every individual will have similar experiences.
  • ‘Subtle’ is that which is beyond the comprehension of the five sense organs, mind and intellect. People who have progressed spiritually can perceive the subtle vibrations. Various Scriptures contain reference to subtle knowledge.
  • The spiritual experiences of seekers published are personal in nature. It is not necessary that everyone will have similar experiences.
