New Delhi – The National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) reported that in the Modi Government’s tenure, incidents of riots have decreased by 48%. In the BJP-ruled States, incidents of riots have decreased by 90%, whereas, as per the report, the Congress-ruled States have registered more than a 30% increase in riots. In the last five years, riots have been decreasing in the country.
- In the last five years, incidents of riots have reduced by 35%. Compared with the year 2021 incidents of riots in 2022 show a 9.5% decrease.
- In 2021, there were 41,954 incidents of riots whereas in 2022, the number reduced to 37,157.
- BJP-ruled States have succeeded in reducing riots by strengthening law and order, but the Congress-ruled States lagged in reducing riots.
- In the last five years, States such as UP, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Assam have succeeded in curbing riots.
Increase in riots in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh
In 2018, when the Congress came to power in Chhattisgarh, the riots increased. 665 incidents of riots occurred in 2018, in 2022 it increased by 30%, (961 riot incidents). Compared with Congress, in the BJP-ruled States, the riots decreased by 48%.
If we look at the statistics of riots in the country, riots increased steadily after Independence. In 1981, when Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister, the incidents of riots were 1,10,000. The first noticeable decrease in riots was during PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s rule. After that, when the Congress-led Government came again, riots increased once again in the country. From 2014, that is, when PM Modi came to power, riots in the country have been decreasing steadily. During the last period of the Congress, the riots were 72,126 but were reduced by 50% in PM Modi’s tenure. Therefore, incidents of riots in the country have decreased by around 48% during the Modi Government’s tenure.
