Incident in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – A local Fast-Track Court has sentenced a woman to 40 years imprisonment for allowing her boyfriend to rape her 7-year-old daughter. Along with this, a fine of ₹20,000 has also been imposed. The girl was sexually abused between March 2018 and September 2019. The convicted woman’s husband was not mentally stable and hence, she was not living with her husband. Following that, this woman got involved with a person named Shishupalan. He raped her daughter.
Judge R Rekha while delivering the verdict said that in this case only the mother has been sentenced, because the main accused, i.e., the boyfriend of this woman, committed suicide while the trial was going on. The victim’s childhood was vitiated by her mother. It was her mother’s responsibility to protect her own minor daughter; instead, this mother allowed her boyfriend to rape her 7-year-old daughter.
According to the Police, the victim’s 11-year-old step-sister has also been abused. The victim and her 11-year-old sister were threatened to remain silent. This incident came to light after both these girls ran away to their grandmother’s house.
