A District official faced protests after he offered his chair to his Guru, later had to apologise

An incident in Delhi

New Delhi – South-West Delhi District official Lakshya Singhal, who is from the 2019 IAS batch, requested his Guru to sit on his office chair. A video of this incident went viral; after which Singhal had to face protests and he had to apologise. He was also warned not to repeat such a mistake in the future.

After offering his Guru to sit on his office chair, Singhal offered a shawl and a garland, and then he bowed down unto his Guru with folded hands. Singhal said that the person to whom I offered the chair has been my Guru since my birth. I had invited Him to my office to pay my respects. He had given me the advice to prepare for IAS exams when I was in college. I will not repeat such a mistake in the future.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Would there be a calamity if the Guru sat on the chair of a District official? Hindu Dharma teaches that even Administrators should honour Saints. Protesting like this is ridiculous.
  • What else can we expect in secular Bharat? It is unfortunate that in Bharat, corrupt, insincere, incompetent civil servants and employees do not have to apologise for anything, but those who follow proper spiritual traditions have to face such situations.
