Hindu students from Jhansi assaulted by Muslim students in Kashmir

Pictures of Deities torn, forced to raise anti-national slogans

Jhansi (UP) – Twenty Hindu students from Baruasagar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Jhansi were part of an exchange programme that allowed them to study at Rajouri Navodaya Vidyalaya in Kashmir. Unfortunately, they faced physical assaults during their time in Rajouri, which led to retaliatory violence against Kashmiri Muslim students in Baruasagar Navodaya Vidyalaya by local students. Furthermore, there were protests demanding the return of the Hindu students to Jhansi from Rajouri. Eventually, students from both sides were sent back to their respective places of origin. Upon their return, the Jhansi students who had gone to Rajouri shared their experiences of mistreatment. The Kashmiri students there forced these Hindu students to raise anti-Bharat slogans and even tore pictures of Deities.

Forced to wash dishes

A student by the name Deepak Kumar recounted, “the Kashmiri students were causing trouble over trivial matters. We were surrounded and forced to raise anti-national slogans. Failure to comply resulted in physical assaults. Moreover, we were forced to wash dishes. Even when we complained about this to the teachers, they did not listen. We refrained from sharing this information with our families, as it would undoubtedly distress them”.

Broke hand for wearing Kalava on wrist

Vipul Kumar explained, “when we used to put up a picture of the Deity in our hostel room, it was torn by them. My classmate Hrithik’s hand was broken to prevent him from wearing Kalava again”.

Editorial Perspective

Observing the anti-Hindu and anti-Bharat sentiments displayed by some Muslim students in Kashmir, it becomes apparent that the issue of Jihadi terrorism in the region may persist for years to come. To effectively address this challenge, the Government will need to focus not only on the development of Kashmir but also on countering and dismantling the extremist mindset prevalent there.
