Expelled Indian diplomat returns to India

New Delhi – Canada alleged India’s involvement in the killing of a Khalistani terrorist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, and asked Indian diplomat to leave the country. This diplomat has returned to India. The name of the expelled officer is not to be disclosed as per the rules, but Canada violated this rule and disclosed the name of the officer. Pavan Kumar Rai is the name of the officer who was working as the Head of Indian Intelligence (Research and Analysis Wing-RAW) in Canada.

Who is Pavan Kumar Rai ?
Pavan Kumar Rai is an IPS officer from the Punjab cadre of the 1997 batch. He also worked as an additional Superintendent of Police (SP) at Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, and Amritsar. Rai is known for his professionalism in carrying out his duties. Rai was the first officer who noticed a rise in drug addiction cases in Punjab and took action against the drug mafia in 2009-10 when he was the additional SP of Tarn Taran. His action against drugs led to creating problems for the political leaders. They started pressurising and harassing him. Later, Rai applied for deputation to the Centre. The then RAW Chief Samant Kumar Goel posted him in the Intelligence Department. Samant Goel also had been an officer from the Punjab cadre; therefore, he knew Rai’s work.
