Memorandum to Maharashtra CM by ‘Surajya Abhiyan’

(‘Trauma Care Centre’ is a hospital equipped to provide quick treatment to accident victims)

Mumbai – In order to provide quick treatment to those injured in road accidents, ‘Trauma Care Centres’ have been set up in many places in the State. However, the fact remains that in 2021 and 2022, over 27,000 people have lost their lives in 60,000 odd road accidents. Whereas this number is increasing every year, out of the total 108 ‘Trauma Care Centres’ approved in Maharashtra, only 63 are functional, while as many as 45 Centres are not functional. This has been revealed through ‘Right to Information’. “The past experience shows that there is a heavy rise in the traffic during the Ganesh festival. The safety of Ganesh devotees is important. The lives of passengers who meet with road accidents can be saved only if they get immediate treatment. Hence, the Government should restart the remaining 45 Trauma Care Centres which are currently non-operational with immediate effect”, Such a memorandum was made with the Chief Minister, Health Minister and Public Works Minister of the State of Maharashtra on behalf of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s ‘Surajya Abhiyan’. Mr Abhishek Murukate, Maharashtra State Coordinator of ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ provided this information.

Through the Right to Information request submitted on behalf of ‘Surajya Abhiyan’, it has been revealed that in Palghar District, not even one ‘Trauma Care Centre’ is operational, while in Sangli District, a centre has been approved in Ishwarpur, which is close to the highway. However, its preliminary level process has not yet started.

Even in Mangaon, which happens to be an important town and industrial hub in Raigad District on the Mumbai-Goa highway, the ‘Trauma Care Centre’ has not yet commenced.

Similar is the situation at Khandala located in Satara District on the Pune-Bengaluru highway.
