Nuh (Haryana) – An order was issued by 50 Gram Panchayats from 3 Districts of Haryana, namely, Rewari, Jhajjar and Mahendragarh, to protest against the attack on Jalabhishek Yatra by fanatic Muslims. They banned Muslims from entering their villages. The Haryana Government has issued show-cause notices to these Gram Panchayats and demanded a reply. Rewari District’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Imran Raza, informed that these notices have been issued under Section 51 of the ‘Haryana Gram Panchayat Raj Act’. This Section can also lead to dismissal of concerned Sarpanchs.

Devender Singh Babli, Minister of Development and Panchayats in Haryana’s BJP Government, called the orders issued by Gram Panchayats as unauthorised and said that strict legal action may be taken against those responsible for these orders.
The Sarpanchs defended their case stating ‘The ban on Muslim entry was to maintain peace in the villages after the Nuh violence, and to avoid opposition by Hindus to cow smuggling by Muslims. The ban was withdrawn by all the Gram Panchayats after realising that it was a legal offense to restrict a community from entering the village’.

Editorial Viewpoint
Admittedly, imposing such a ban is undemocratic but why did the concerned Gram Panchayats take such an extreme step ? It has been proven time and again that the Police, Administration and Politicians cannot protect the Hindus. If Hindus take measures to protect themselves, legal actions are taken against them. Then how will the Hindus protect themselves ? If Hindus are assured of their protection, no such ban will be issued. |
