Indian Navy unveils new crest of INS Malvan featuring the ‘Bagh Nakh’

INS Malvan

Mumbai – The Indian Navy has unveiled the new crest of INS Malvan, featuring the ‘Bagh Nakh’ (Tiger Claws). According to the Navy, the ‘Bagh Nakh’ symbolises courage, agility and fearlessness. The crest also reflects the warship’s resolve to remain ever vigilant in safeguarding India’s maritime frontiers and, when required, to strike the enemy with stealth and precision.

Why was the ‘Bagh Nakh’ chosen as the symbol?

The Indian Navy clarified that the ‘Bagh Nakh’ incorporated into the crest is not merely a historical symbol. It also represents courage, strategic skill, vigilance and offensive capability. It highlights the values on which the warship will always remain prepared to face any challenge.

This change has not been made to the Indian Navy’s official flag or crest. It is only the new crest of INS Malvan, reflecting the warship’s distinct identity and operational role.

Indian Navy unveiled its new flag in 2022

Earlier, in 2022, the Indian Navy unveiled its new flag during the commissioning ceremony of the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. The British-era St George’s Cross (Red Cross) was removed and replaced with a blue-and-gold octagonal emblem inspired by the Rajmudra (Royal Seal) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
