New Delhi – The Supreme Court has acquitted a father and son in a 27-year-old murder case. They were earlier convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Sessions Court and the High Court. The Supreme Court acquitted the duo due to the prosecution’s failure to explain the allegations against them and the benefit of doubt.
Altaf Hussain had a dispute with Mohammed Muslim and Shamshad over land in a village in Uttar Pradesh. One day in 1995, Altaf Hussain was riding a bicycle along with his son and nephew when Muhammad Muslim and Shamshad hacked Hussain to death. In this case, the Sessions Court convicted Hussain and sentenced him to life imprisonment, which was later upheld by the High Court.
The Supreme Court said that the deceased Hussain’s son and nephew did not make any effort to save Hussain or take Hussain to the hospital after he was injured in the attack. This raises doubts. The Police did not produce the bicycle and the blanket allegedly belonging to the accused in the Court. Due to doubts about other minor events, we are giving the benefit to the accused and acquitting them.
