Russian crude oil exported to Pakistan after getting refined in India

Russia had put a condition before Pakistan

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Russia has started crude oil supply to Pakistan. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has signed an agreement with Russia to purchase 1 lakh ton of oil, of which 45,000 ton has been received. It has come to light that this oil has been refined entirely in India. It is remarkable that Prime Minister Sharif has not disclosed this information to Pakistani citizens.

Russia is providing crude oil to Pakistan at a 20% discount on the condition that oil imported by Pakistan will be refined in India and payment will be made in Chinese Yuan. Pakistan has accepted the conditions. The oil coming from Russia was refined at Gujarat’s Vadinar refinery and sent to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from where it reached Pakistan. Some Russian Government companies operate in the UAE. One such company transported the oil from Gujarat to UAE and then to Karachi.

Although Russia has given oil to Pakistan at a 20% discount, considering the cost of refining and transportation, Pakistan is not benefiting significantly. Pakistan is getting the oil from Russia at the same price as it gets from Saudi Arabia. Therefore, it would not be surprising if Pakistan reconsiders its decision to purchase oil from Russia and stops it.
