Karachi (Pakistan) – A 14-year-old Hindu girl was abducted and converted to Islam in Sindh province. Later she was forcefully married to a Muslim boy. The victim’s name is Sohana Sharma and Qazi Ahmed is the name of the accused who kidnapped and converted her. Her marriage certificate has been made with her own signature to prove that she voluntarily married the Muslim boy. The matter has been raised in the Sindh Legislative Assembly. Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla has assured that necessary steps will be taken for the implementation of concerned laws.
Most cases of atrocities happen in Sindh and Punjab Provinces
According to a report by ‘Human Rights Without Frontiers’, Pakistan is suffering not only from political and economic crisis but also from forced marriages and conversions. According to the data released by the ‘Center for Social Justice’, the local affiliate of Pakistan’s ‘Christian Solidarity Worldwide’, 202 total incidents of violence against women or girls have been reported in Pakistan during 2021 and 2022. Most of these cases are from Sindh and Punjab provinces. Of these 202 incidents, 120 were against Hindu women, 80 were against Christian women and 2 were against Sikh women. Hindu girls from the Scheduled Castes are attacked more than the other castes. Out of the total 202 victims, at least 133 are minors i.e. below the age of 18 years.
