Delhi HC orders removal of online content claiming woman was forced to convert

Delhi High Court opines that such news might put the life of the accused in danger

New Delhi – Delhi High Court ordered Twitter, Google and other social media to remove online content claiming a woman, a resident of Delhi, was forced to convert by her Muslim lover. The HC served notices to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Press Council of India, News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority with a warning, failing which, will be dealt with seriously.

While giving the order, the HC also said that it was a great danger as viewers comment on such news and post them on social media posing danger to the life of the petitioner. Hence, such news should be removed immediately.

Petitioner by the name Azmat Ali Khan informed that the woman in the news had ‘Live in relationship’ with him for the last 8 years. All those news were published after the complaint made by the woman. He said that he has moved a petition to remove the news from circulation as they were posing a danger to his life, dignity and security. He also denied the accusation of conversion.
