New Delhi – The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) has issued an alert urging officials to take preventative measures to protect 12,000 Government websites from an Indonesia-based ‘hacktivist’ group. All websites of the State and Central Government have been ordered to be monitored on a technical basis. It has been ordered not to open any link from unknown numbers or e-mails. Cyber-attacks are highly likely if it is opened. Indian Government reportedly witnessed 19 ransomware attacks against its various organisations.

In July last year, India sought Interpol’s help to nab two hacker groups, namely, ‘Dragon Force Malaysia’ and ‘Hacktivist Indonesia’ for waging a cyber war against the country over former BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s comments on Prophet Mohammad. They claimed that their attack was in response to Nupur Sharma’s comments on a news channel debate. The Gulf countries expressed their anger against India due to Nupur Sharma incident.
