
Islamabad (Pakistan) – The Supreme Court had recently declared that it would rule on the ongoing dispute over the date of provincial Assembly elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; But before the judgement comes, the Shehbaz Sharif Government has criticised the Supreme Judiciary. The ruling coalition in Pakistan is trying to divide the judges. The Sharif Government and the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) have been targeting the Supreme Court since the last few days.

1. The Sharif Government removed the Supreme Court registrar from his post ahead of the forthcoming decision on election dates. The Government said that Registrar Ishrat Ali did not obey the order of Justice Qazi Fayez Isa, hence, he is dismissed from his post.

2. The ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition Government is targeting Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial. Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial had commented, ‘If you go to the Parliament, you will see those people addressing the Parliament, were in the jail till yesterday and are traitors.’ In Parliament, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took strong objection to this statement.
