Amritsar (Punjab) – “The Government should refrain from creating an atmosphere of terror in Punjab for political gain. Government should refrain from illegally detaining those who voice their opinion in democratic manner; because Punjab has already suffered a lot”, appealed Giani Harpreet Singh the Jathedar (chief) of Shri Akal Takht Sahib. Now is the time to move towards a better future, he said. He also alleged that no Government has ever been serious to heal the wounds of previous Governments’ atrocities in Punjab.

Giani Harpreet Singh further stated,

It cannot be ignored that the discrimination and atrocities committed by the previous Governments have affected the mentality of the Sikh youth and there is discontent among them. The emotions of such youths are being played with by making them directionless. Sikh youths should believe in intellectuals instead of taking the path of conflict. The youths should refrain from any temptation that would give the Government an opportunity to oppress the Sikh youth.

Political discrimination played a major role in creating a sense of alienation among the Sikhs but today we appeal that the Governments should learn from the mistakes of past and simplify the religious, political, and economic issues, and eliminate the feeling of alienation. Governments should also prevent separatism in the minds of the minority youth for political power.
