Expressed concern about protests against Khan’s upcoming film ‘Pathaan’ in Assam

Guwahati (Assam) – While responding to a question at a press conference held on 21st January, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma categorically refused to watch actor Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film “Pathaan”. He also asked, ‘Who is Shah Rukh Khan ?’ I don’t know him. I don’t even know about his film’. The Chief Minister tweeted on 22nd January that Shah Rukh Khan had called him at 2 am Khan expressed concern about the screening of “Pathaan” at Guwahati’s Narengi Hall. I assured him that it’s the duty of the State Government to maintain law & order. We’ll enquire and ensure no such untoward incidents.

Protests against the ‘Pathaan’ film are going on in many cities of Assam. On 20th January, Bajrang Dal activists vandalised a movie theatre in Narangi. Shah Rukh Khan’s poster was also burnt. The film has been criticised for its depiction of obscenity, including the denigration of the colour saffron.

Assamese people should watch Assamese movies, not Hindi !

When Chief Minister Sarma made a statement about Shah Rukh Khan at a press conference, reporters told him that Shah Rukh Khan is a Bollywood superstar. Sarma said, “People of the State should not worry about Hindi, but about Assamese films. The Assamese movie produced by Late Nipon Goswami, ‘Dr Bezbaruah 2’ is going to release soon. He urged citizens to watch it.
