SP gets the beating too
Narayanpur (Chhattisgarh) – The local tribals gave a call for ‘Bandh’ on the 2nd of January 2023 to oppose the conversions carried out by Christian missionaries. Some of the local tribals damaged a church and a statue of Jesus Christ during the ‘Bandh’. The Police reached the place of the incident and thrashed the individuals with canes who were present at the place of the incident, leading to their fury. They then attacked Sadanand Kumar, the Superintendent of Police (SP), injuring him. He was immediately admitted to a hospital.

1. There was tension in the area for the last 15 days on the issue of religious conversions. On the 31st of December and 1st of January, there were clashes between Christians and local tribals at Gorra village. The injured tribals appealed to observe ‘Bandh’ demanding action against the concerned Christians.

2. On the day of ‘Bandh’, the SP and the District Collector organised a meeting with all the office bearers from the local tribals. After the meeting, some of the tribals entered and vandalised a church in the area.
3. District Collector Ajit Vasant said that the situation was under control and stringent action would be taken against the attackers by filing cases. Nobody would be spared.

It appears that the citizens are now taking the law into their hands to oppose conversions because there is no law against religious conversions. The Government needs to take serious note of this issue ! |
