BJP MLA T Raja Singh arrested in Hyderabad

Hyderabad (Telangana) – BJP MLA T Raja Singh from Goshamahal Assembly Constituency in Telangana has been arrested for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad. He has been booked under sections 153A, 295 and 505 of the IPC. A large number of Muslims gathered outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Bashirbagh and demanded action against T Raja Singh after the video of his statements went viral on YouTube. They staged a ‘rasta bandh’ (blockade) agitation here. At this time slogans of ‘Sar tan se juda’ (beheading) were raised against T Raja Singh. The Muslims then forcibly entered the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Division) and registered a protest. This created a tense situation here. The Police then registered a case against T Raja Singh and arrested him from his house.

The video that led to the arrest of T Raja Singh is 10 minutes 27 seconds long. The title of this video is ‘Farooqi Ke Aankh Ka Itihasa Suniye’. This video was aired on the night of 22nd August from a YouTube channel known as ‘Shri Ram Channel Telangana’. In this video, T Raja Singh has criticised comedian Munnavar Farooqui’s program with reference to suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Apparently, T Raja Singh referred to Sharma’s alleged derogatory statements without naming her directly. Sharma’s alleged derogatory statement about Prophet Muhammad had sparked international controversy, after which, protests were staged in many places. Eventually, T Raja Singh was arrested on the morning of 23rd August under the charge of hurting religious sentiments.

T Raja Singh suspended from BJP

The BJP has suspended its MLA T Raja Singh from the party and also issued a show cause notice to him for his allegedly offensive statement. ‘Why should we not expel you from the party ?’, has been asked in the notice. He has been given 10 days to reply and an enquiry committee has also been appointed.

Responding to T Raja Singh’s statement, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said, ‘BJP hates Muslims and Mohammed Paigambar. It cannot see peace in Hyderabad and does not want social harmony to prevail. It is BJP’s official policy to harass Muslims emotionally as well as mentally. Is Nupur Sharma, who made offensive statements about the Prophet, put in jail ? BJP has given her Police protection. Does Prime Minister Narendra Modi agree with the statement made by the BJP MLA ? However, Muslims should not take the law into their hands’.

I have not referred anyone, T Raja Singh clarifies

In this video, T Raja Singh has made some of the statements made by Nupur Sharma without naming anyone. He’s being opposed due to it. On this criticism, T Raja Singh has clarified that he has not named anyone.

Set fire to T Raja Singh’s house !

‘If T Raja Singh is not arrested in the next 24 hours, then set fire to his house’, Rashid Khan, the general secretary of the State Congress, appealed to the Muslims. ‘If law and order is disturbed, I will not be responsible for it. T Raja Singh always insulted the Prophet. Arrest him or else I will disrupt law and order in the city’, Khan threatened.

When he was asked a question about this by a news channel reporter, he said that as a Muslim I cannot tolerate the disrespect of the Prophet and hence, I have made this appeal.
