
Godhra (Gujarat) – The Sessions Court sentenced Rafiq Bhatuk, the accused in the 2002 train carnage, burning alive 59 ‘Kar-sevaks’ (who were agitating for their demand for the construction of Shriram Mandir in Ayodhya) to life imprisonment. Rafiq was arrested 19 years after the Godhra incident. He is the 35th accused convicted in this case.

Earlier in March 2011, the special Court had convicted 31 people; two persons in 2018 and one accused in 2019.
