MLA Saud Alam refused to stand for Vande Mataram in Bihar Legislative Assembly’s monsoon session

‘Ours is not Hindu Rashtra’—Saud Alam

Bihar – Bihar Legislative Assembly’s monsoon session concluded on 30th June with Vande Mataram. During Vande Mataram Saud Alam, the MLA of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) from Thakurganj was sitting in his place. He did not stand up. BJP’s MLAs requested him to stand up, but Alam did pay any heed to it. When Alam left the hall after Vande Mataram, journalists asked him the reason for his not standing.

Alam said ours is not Hindu Rashtra. He could stand up only during the National Anthen, ‘Jana gana mana …’. No one could compel him to stand during Vande Mataram.

Editorial viewpoint

It has been observed that the majority of Muslims in India oppose Vande Mataram, hence, Saud Alam refused to stand to pay respect to it. What is the big surprise if someone opines that such people should go and settle in the 57 nations practicing their religion ?
