New Delhi – In the context of the Nupur Sharma case, Iran had claimed earlier in a statement that Ajit Doval, India’s national security adviser, said those who insult the Prophet will be severely punished and that others will learn a lesson from it; within hours, however, Iran withdrew its claim. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is on a visit to India. He had met Doval. The statement said that Abdollahian had made the claim. The reference has been removed from the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website.

Giving information about this, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi said, ‘During the meeting between the Foreign Minister of Iran and the National Security Adviser of India, no statement was made with reference to the Prophet Mohammad. We have already made it clear that this is not the opinion of the Government of India. Action has been taken against those who made remarks and tweeted about the Prophet. We have nothing more to say on this topic. I am aware that the part of what is currently being talked about has been removed from the statement by the Iranian Foreign Ministry’.
