New Delhi – Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), a subsidiary of Al Qaeda and a terrorist organisation operating in Afghanistan, is planning to carry out terrorist activities in India, a United Nations report has said.
1. AQIS renamed its magazine ‘Nawa-e-Afghan Jihad’ as ‘Nawa-e-Ghazwa-e-Hind’ (Destruction of India) in March 2022. This indicates that the group is preparing to carry out terrorist attacks in India, the report said.
2. AQIS is carrying out terrorist activities in a very stealthy manner. The group currently has between 180 and 400 terrorists. This includes Muslims from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. The militant group is active in the States of Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar, Nimruz, Paktika and Jabul in Afghanistan.
3. In 2019, al-Qaeda chief al-Zawahiri made provocative speeches about carrying out jihad in Kashmir. This is always quoted by AQIS.
The report further said that the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) constitutes the largest component of foreign terrorist fighters in #Afghanistanhttps://t.co/vSbF1GFeor
