The maximum number of these girls fall in the age group of 12 to 18 years

Editorial Comments

  • It is a shame that the Police in the State is not trying to stop people from disappearing or to find the missing persons.
  • The possibility of ‘love jihad’ behind the disappearance of girls cannot be ruled out. With the BJP Government in Uttar Pradesh, Hindus feel that the matter needs to be treated more seriously.

Agra (UP) – In 2020, 1,763 children have gone missing in the State of Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 1,166 are girls. This means that 3 girls go missing in the State of UP daily. These statistics were revealed through the Right to Information. The information had been obtained under RTI from 50 Districts.

1. According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, 1,080 of the missing girls were between 12 and 18 years of age. Of these, 966 girls were traced; however, about 200 girls so far are not traceable.

2. RTI activist and child rights activist Naresh Paras from Agra has obtained this information from RTI. He said the Police in some Districts refused to provide information directly through RTI. The disappearance of children in this way is a matter of concern. The cases will be handed over to the anti-human Trafficking Department, if the children have been missing for 4 months and if there is no information obtained about them.
