Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – The ‘Kerala Lalithakala Akademi’ recently awarded and honoured a caricature that insulted the country, Hindu Dharma, and the cow. The cartoon shows a global conference on Covid-19 being attended by representatives from the United States, England, and China. It also shows a cow as a representative of India. This cow is dressed in saffron. Seeing this, other countries are looking at India in amazement. The cartoon has been titled ‘Covid-19 in India’. This cartoon has been drawn by Anoop Radhakrishnan, who lives in Ponnurunni, Kerala.

BJP State President in Kerala Surendran has opposed the caricature and the award given to it. He said that some people holding responsible positions are deliberately defaming India and Hindu Dharma.
Nemom Pushparaj, the Chairman of ‘Kerala Lalithakala Akademi’, clarified that an eminent jury consisting of reputed cartoonists had selected threes cartoons for reward. He said, ‘Akademi has no role in it since it was an eminent jury which has selected the cartoon’. (Even if the selection is made by the experts since the award will be given in the name of the academy, the academy is expected to intervene and revoke it, as well as reprimand such experts for making the wrong choice and the cartoonist too ! – Editor)
