
Washington (US) – World Health Organization has approved the first malaria vaccine RTS, S/AS01. African countries that are most affected by malaria will be provided with the vaccine first. Other countries can decide for themselves if they should use the vaccine or not.

Children younger than 5 years are most affected by malaria. Every 2 minutes, one child dies of malaria. In 2019, around 409,000 people died of malaria, out of which67% (274,000) were children younger than 5 years of age.
