Assess the oxygen availability in the country and rethink over its distribution system – SC

New Delhi – There is a need to pay attention to the supply of oxygen across the country. The Apex Court ordered the Central Government to assess the oxygen availability in the country and rethink over its system of distribution. The Supreme Court passed this order during the ongoing hearing on the shortage of oxygen in the country. The Central Government presented its complete plan regarding the purchase and supply of oxygen to the Supreme Court. Presenting the Central Government’s side, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said, “Delhi’s hospitals have a huge stock of oxygen, while in States like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, the demand for oxygen is increasing.”

1. The Court told Tushar Mehta that when they had planned, they had not thought that everyone would need oxygen; however, patients getting treated at home also required it.

2. The Supreme Court also revoked the contempt notice of the Delhi High Court. The Court said, “by case of contempt or imprisonment of officers, the supply of oxygen will not increase. Right now people’s lives are in danger, so help is needed from all. Central Government and Delhi Government officials should immediately meet and discuss this point”.
