US govt funded democracy watchdog downgrades India from ‘free’ to ‘partly free’, cites Modi govt as reason

  • In reality American organisations are worried about a decrease in ‘freedom’ of religious fanaticism, urban naxalism and Jihadi terrorism in India.  Hence,  they are intentionally publishing such reports in an attempt to defame India!
  • Xenophobia is touching all time highs in America. Therefore this American organisation should primarily show concern about the freedom there. India is capable of knowing how much freedom should be given to whom in India!

Washington DC (America) – According to an annual report published by Global Freedom House, India’s points dropped from 71 to 67. Amongst 211 countries, India has secured the 88th place. Previously India was placed 83rd on this list. The Global Freedom House has claimed that the rights and freedom given to citizens have reduced ever since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014.  The report cites attacks on Muslims, use of the laws related to anti national activities, the lockdown imposed by the Government to manage the Covid-19 situation as having adversely impacted the freedom of Indian people. The report also claims ‘civil liberties declined’ since ‘Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won power in 2014’.

Further this report says, Modi’s Hindu nationalist government has put pressure on organisations fighting for human rights. There have been incidents of threats to specialists in various fields and journalists. It also mentioned vigilante mob attacks on minorities.
In the search for countries having the greatest freedom, Finland, Norway and Sweden are in the first place having secured 100 out of 100 points. Tibet and Syria are named as having the least amount of freedom.
