Hasanpur (Karnataka) – Miscreants vandalised the Idol of Shri Mahakali in Doddagaddavalli ChatushkutaTemple. The Temple was built in C.E.1113 during the rule of Vishnuvardhana from Hoysala dynasty. It is a unique temple of Shri Mahalakshmi and the Idol of Shri Mahakali was placed in the south sanctum of the Temple. The Temple is under the management of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). This incident came to light on 20th November when local devotees visited the Temple.
Deeply disturbed and distraught to watch this desecration in Mahalakshmi Temple at Doddagaddavalli. I clearly remember my visit here.

- Dr. Shalvapille Iyengar, an ancient history and archaeology expert held the ASI responsible for the incident. He said that vandalised ancient idol was a big loss to the heritage. The concerned miscreants should be strictly punished by the Government and the ASI should answer for this severe loss.
- C.T. Ravi, BJP national general secretary expressed sorrow about this incident. He urged the Karnataka Home Minister to constitute a special team to investigate the matter and bring the guilty to justice.
