Ban the book “Who Was Shivaji ?” and register a posthumous case against Comrade Pansare!

  • Demand for investigation into whether the book received foreign funding

Buldhana – Shiv Sena MLA Mr. Sanjay Gaikwad submitted a memorandum to the District Collector here on 27 April 2026 regarding the controversial statements in the book “Who Was Shivaji ?” written by Comrade Govind Pansare. In the memorandum, he demanded that a posthumous case be registered against Comrade Pansare for allegedly writing incorrect history about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He also demanded the arrest of publisher Prashant Ambi for printing the book after the author’s death and for referring to Shivaji Maharaj in a disrespectful manner.

The memorandum further states:

1. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is an inspiration for Maharashtra as well as the entire country and some authors and publishers attempt to gain financial benefits by using his name.

2. The book attempts to damage the image of Shivaji Maharaj.

3. An investigation should be conducted into whether the book received financial assistance from abroad and action should be taken against those who printed and sold the book.

The memorandum bears the signatures of Shiv Sena members including Vijay Ambhore,  Sandeep Gaikwad, Dhananjay Barote, Sanjay Hade, Vijaysingh Rajpur, Jija Rathod, Anuja Savale, Ashish Jadhav, Shrikant Gaikwad, along with many other office bearers.
