2 Sikhs shot dead outside gurudwara in Italy

Suspicion of murder committed by individuals of Indian descent out of animosity.

ROME, Italy – Two volunteers at Gurudwara — Rajinder Singh (48) and Gurmeet Singh (48) — were shot dead by unidentified assailants outside a gurdwara in Italy’s Covo. Another person was injured in the firing. The injured is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police are investigating the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed the assailants to be of Indian descent. This case is related to mutual enmity. The deceased volunteers were working as sewadars (volunteer) in the gurdwara for a long time.

On the occasion of Baisakhi (the foundation day of the Khalsa sect), preparations for the Nagar Kirtan were going on at the Gurudwara on April 18. The men in a four-wheeler fired upon the two servitors while they were leaving the Gurudwara at around 12 o’clock midnight and fled. After the incident, the Nagar Kirtan in Kovo was also canceled.
