New ‘love jihad’ case surfaces in Uttar Pradesh

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) – A new case of so-called “love jihad” has come to light in Aligarh. A man named Adil allegedly deceived a Hindu widow from Ghaziabad by posing under a false identity and subsequently raped her.
1. According to the victim, she came into contact with the accused about a year ago. After her husband’s death, she had been living alone with her one-and-a-half-year-old child. The accused allegedly introduced himself as a Hindu, befriended her, gained her trust over time, and promised marriage.
2. Around 15 days ago, he reportedly called her to Aligarh and took her to a hotel, where he allegedly confined her and repeatedly raped her. When she later discovered his real identity, she resisted.
3. The victim further alleged that the accused, along with the hotel owner, continued to sexually assault her. She also stated that her mangalsutra and ₹3 lakh were forcibly taken from her.
4. On 16 April 2026, when the accused stepped out for some work, she managed to escape from the hotel. However, he allegedly caught her on the road and assaulted her. Hearing her cries, nearby people gathered, rescued her, and informed the police. The accused was reportedly beaten by locals before being handed over to the authorities.
5. Police reached the spot upon receiving information and took the accused into custody. A case has been registered against the accused and the hotel owner, and an investigation is underway. The victim has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
