(An Imambara is a religious and cultural site of Shia Muslims, while an Eidgah is an open ground used for offering prayers.)

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – On 16th April, authorities carried out a bulldozer operation on an Eidgah and an Imambara allegedly built on government land in Bicholi village of Sambhal. Authorities deployed a massive police contingent at the site during the action. Many villagers gathered to witness the demolition.
According to the administration, the Eidgah and Imambara in Bicholi village were constructed on government land.
Following complaints from villagers, the lekhpal (village accountant) filed an application in the tehsildar’s court on 18th January. As per the court’s order, a public notice was published in various newspapers on 31th January 2026. No response was received to the notice.
Subsequently, a team of administrative officials reached the site at 7.30 a.m. on 16th April, and the structures were bulldozed.
Officials stated clearly that any illegal construction on government land will not be tolerated.
