50 criminals externed from Mumbai

First large-scale action of its kind in the city

(Externment refers to the legal measure of banishing a criminal from a specific area, city, or district for a defined period, and prohibiting their return during that time.)

Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti

Mumbai– Adopting a “zero tolerance” policy against local criminals, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti has ordered the externment of 50 offenders from the eastern suburbs. This marks the first time such action has been taken on such a large scale. (If these externed criminals commit offences elsewhere, what should the public do? The system must also address this concern. – Editor)

The Commissioner has also urged citizens to report information about local criminals to the police. He stated that if local police fail to act, complaints may be brought directly to him.

The list includes individuals accused of serious crimes such as murder, robbery, and violent offences, as well as repeat offenders and those involved in crimes against women. Photographs of the externed criminals have been displayed at police stations. Citizens have been urged to immediately contact the nearest police station or the Deputy Commissioner’s office if any of these individuals are seen in the area again.

Editorial Perspective

The Mumbai Police’s effort to maintain law and order is commendable. Citizens expect the city to become crime-free at the earliest.
