Individual arrested for forcing car into Delhi Assembly premises

The accused claims, he acted out of desperation to draw attention to the police failure in tracing his missing nephew.

New Delhi – Police have arrested a person who breached security barricades at the entrance of the Delhi Assembly premises and drove inside. The accused is identified as Sarabjit. His vehicle has been seized.

According to his statement, Sarabjit’s nephew has been missing since 1 April. Although a complaint was filed at the Hari Nagar Police Station, the police did not show any urgency, which led him to desperation. To draw attention to the issue, he tried to enter the Assembly premises to convey his grievance to a senior official.

Police confirmed that no weapons were found in his possession. However, due to the act of forcefully breaching security barriers, a case of attempt to murder has been registered against him.

Sarabjit’s wife has submitted medical documents to the authorities, stating that he was mentally unstable.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Incidents of police high-handedness, evasive responses, and negligence are, unfortunately, not new to the public and are experienced across the country on a regular basis. If strict action is not taken against such careless attitude of the administration, strong public reactions will not be a surprise.
  • When wrongdoing and mismanagement persist, public anger is bound to erupt and strong reactions follow. If the administration, police, and those in power fail to reform, the people will have no choice but to remove them from office.
