Police had earlier denied permission citing law and order concerns

Nanded, Maharashtra – The Biloli police had denied permission for a public meeting scheduled on 4 April at 6:30 p.m. by MLA T. Raja Singh, founder-president of ‘Shri Ram Yuva Sena’, citing potential law and order issues.
This decision was challenged before the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court. Advocate Pujya Suresh Kulkarni, representing the Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad, argued the case and refuted the government’s objections.
After hearing both sides, a bench of Justices Sandeep Kumar C. More and Abasaheb D. Shinde granted permission for the rally.
Government’s arguments
1. Previous speeches by T. Raja Singh were alleged to constitute ‘hate speech’ and could increase communal tensions; cases have been registered against him.
2. There was a possibility of disturbance during the Ram Navami period, and prohibitor orders under Section 37(1)(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, were in force from 13 March to 27.
Arguments by advocate Pujya Suresh Kulkarni

1. Similar meetings in Chopda-Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mira-Bhayandar-Mumbai, Pusad, and Yavatmal were previously permitted by the High Court and were conducted without any incident taking place.
2. Relevant High Court orders (Criminal W.P. Nos. 369/2024, 866/2025, 594/2024) and Supreme Court guidelines support such permissions.
3. The petitioner and T. Raja Singh expressed willingness to submit an affidavit assuring that peace would be maintained.
Highlight
1. Rally to be held peacefully in the presence of MLA T. Raja Singh
2. The event has been organised to promote religion, culture, and unity. Organisers have urged people to participate in large numbers. Following the High Court’s decision, enthusiasm among supporters has increased, and the rally is expected to be conducted smoothly and successfully.
Editorial PerspectiveWhy are only Hindu gatherings repeatedly obstructed under the pretext of law and order ? If Hindus cannot hold assemblies in Hindu-majority India, then where should they hold them – in Pakistan ? This too needs to be investigated – When governments with Hindutva-aligned ideologies are in power at both the Union and State levels, is the police administration deliberately acting under someone’s instructions in taking such actions ? |
