New Delhi – After toppling of the Sheikh Hasina’s Government in Bangladesh, the interim Government’s relations with India had soured. Now, Tariq Rahman has taken an oath as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. He has indicated his inclination to improve relations with India. It is stated that Major General Mohammad Kaiser Rashid Chowdhury, the Chief of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence of Bangladesh paid a secret visit to India but neither the Indian Government not the Bangladesh Government has confirmed the visit.
General Chowdhury met India’s national security advisor Ajit Doval and other officers, including Research and Analysis Wing (RAW)’s Chief Parag Jain and Director General of Military Intelligence, Lt General R S Raman. It is stated to be a step towards improving the soured relations between the two countries in the last two years. This news has been published by ‘Prothom Alo’, a newspaper in Bangladesh.
What was decided in the meeting ?It was agreed that none of the countries would let its own land be used against each other. ‘The Print’ has published this news on the basis of the information from people who knew about Chowdhury’s visit. General Chowdhury’s tour was officially declared as a visit for medical reasons. This visit was very important from the viewpoint of India’s security in the background of the current happenings in Bangladesh. If relations with Bangladesh are not good, it will affect the peace in the North-Eastern States of India; therefore, this visit is important. |
