Election Commission suspends 7 officials including Murshid Alam and Sefaour Rahman

Case of irregularities in the ‘S.I.R.’ process in Bengal

(‘S.I.R.’ i.e. ‘Special Intensive Revision’ — special detailed revision of the electoral rolls)

Kolkata (Bengal) – In connection with negligence and misuse of constitutional authority during the ‘S.I.R.’ process in the state, the Election Commission has suspended 7 officials from Bengal, including Murshid Alam and Sefaour Rahman.

Dr Sefaour Rahman is an Assistant Director in the Agriculture Department and was assigned responsibility for the Samserganj Assembly constituency in Murshidabad district. Murshid Alam is an Assistant Agriculture Director and was assigned responsibility for 57 Assembly constituencies.

Nitish Das is a Revenue Officer in the Farakka area and was assigned responsibility for the Farakka Assembly constituency. Dalia Ray Chaudhuri is a Women Development Officer and was assigned responsibility for the Maynaguri Assembly constituency. Satyajit Das is a Joint Block Development Officer and was assigned responsibility for the ‘139 Canning East’ Assembly constituency. Joydeep Kundu was responsible for the intensive revision of the electoral rolls in the ‘139 Canning East’ Assembly constituency. Debashish Biswas is a Joint Block Development Officer and was assigned responsibility for the 229 Debra Assembly constituency.

The Commission has directed the Chief Secretary to initiate further action against these officials. The Commission stated that the ‘S.I.R.’ process is a sensitive matter and any negligence in it will not be tolerated.
