(‘Reels’ are short videos circulated on Instagram.)

Raichur (Karnataka) – The police have arrested two fanatical Muslim youths for making ‘Reels’ by stepping on the National Flag and the Bhagwadgeeta in the city. The two accused, identified as Nawaz and Sohail, allegedly created videos in which they were seen placing their feet on the National Flag and the sacred Hindu scripture, the Bhagwadgeeta. They had uploaded these videos as their WhatsApp Status (content shared on one’s social media account for others to view). The incident, seen as an insult to the Nation and Hindu Dharma, has triggered widespread outrage in Raichur district. Several Hindu organisations have strongly objected to it.
Kartik Reddy, described as a nationalist and a member of a devout Hindu organisation, immediately lodged a complaint at the police station against the objectionable WhatsApp Status. He demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. Acting swiftly, the police traced those responsible for posting the status and arrested Nawaz and Sohail within 24 hours. The police have stated that strict legal action will be taken in the matter.
