Tipu Sultan portrait finally removed from Malegaon Deputy Mayor’s office after outrage

Hindutva organisations aggressive

Deputy Mayor Shan-e-Hind Nihal Ahmed and the painting of Tipu Sultan displayed in his office

Nashik, Maharashtra – Due to aggressive stand by the Hindutva organisation, eventually the portrait of Tipu Sultan has been removed from the hallway of Deputy Mayor’s office. There are prescribed rules regarding whose portraits may be displayed in government offices. Despite this, Deputy Mayor Shan-e-Hind Nihal Ahmed had installed the portrait of Tipu Sultan, who had killed Hindus and raped Hindu women. When questioned by the media, she reportedly said, “We will display portraits of those who align with our ideology.” (The Deputy Mayor’s statement clearly indicates ideological alignment with the tyrannical and brutal Tipu Sultan. Hindus must reflect on how dangerous such elected representatives can prove for society !)

In response, Hindutva organisations intensified their protest, stating that they would present her with a painting depicting the slaying of Afzal Khan and press for it to be displayed. Activists had brought the picture with them during their demonstration.

Congress State President Sapkal’s unabashed remarks

Congress State President Sapkal said that Tipu Sultan was equivalent to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, adding that long after Shivaji Maharaj’s time, Tipu Sultan drew inspiration from him and fought against the British without adopting malicious ideas.

“Sapkal must apologise immediately” – Keshav Upadhye, BJP Spokesperson

BJP spokesperson Keshav Upadhye said that Tipu Sultan committed grave atrocities, whereas Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj established Swarajya. Glorifying Tipu Sultan as equivalent to Shivaji Maharaj for minority appeasement is a serious insult to our idol, he said.

Editorial Perspective

Hindus, please note what happens on the very first day of a Muslim representative in the office of Municipal Corporation. This is just a glimpse. Hindus need to be alert, or the next generation will have no role models to look up to.
