Legal action against those who provide employment and shelter to Bangladeshi infiltrators : Maharashtra Govt.

Mumbai – In a significant move, the Maharashtra Government has announced legal action against builders, businessmen and industrialists who provide employment or shelter to Bangladeshi infiltrators in order to avail cheap labour. The State Home Department has issued a Government Order directing all administrative Departments and District authorities to initiate strict action against violators.

1. Due to the availability of cheap labour, Bangladeshi nationals are being preferred at many places. However, this has posed a serious threat to the national security of the State and the country. Taking serious note of this matter, the Government has decided to initiate stringent measures.

2. Hereafter, if Bangladeshi workers are found employed as construction labour, mechanics, welders, drivers, plumbers, waiters and similar occupations, the employers concerned will be held accountable.

3. The order emphasises that national security is paramount and that no infiltrator should be given employment under any circumstances.

It has come to light that infiltrators prepare fake documents and forge Government records to reside illegally in India. By misusing technology, original documents are tampered with and altered. To prevent this, instructions have been issued for verification of documents and supporting evidence submitted with applications. Their authenticity will now be immediately verified directly from the issuing authorities.

This step is expected to curb the misuse of forged documents and prevent illegal residents from exploiting the system.

4. These measures will ensure strict administrative control over those providing shelter to illegal immigrants. It will also curb individuals who avail benefits of Government schemes on the basis of forged documents.

5. Earlier, Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam had informed the Legislative Assembly that developers and contractors in Mumbai have been instructed to submit affidavits declaring that no Bangladeshi workers are employed by them. The Home Department has now directed District Collectors to furnish detailed information in this regard.

Bangladeshi infiltrators a threat to Nation : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

In the information shared on ‘X’, Chief Minister Sarma wrote that the demographic invasion of Assam taking place quietly and through deceit, could lead to damage to strategically important Districts of the State. “These are the court’s own words. The growing number of illegal immigrants is turning some Districts of the State into Muslim-majority areas. After this, demands may be raised for their merger with Bangladesh, which will only be a matter of time. Damage to Assam would sever the entire North-Eastern region from the rest of India, and the region’s rich natural resources would slip out of the Nation’s hands. Acknowledging this problem is neither fanaticism nor hatred”, he said.

Editorial Perspective

  • While initiating legal action against those who employ or shelter illegal infiltrators is a commendable step, the Government should also ensure speedy identification and deportation of Bangladeshi infiltrators to their home country after following the due legal process.
