General Manoj Naravane’s autobiography not yet published : Penguin Random House

  • The book copy in printed or digital form is a violation of copyright laws

  • General Naravane also confirms the same stance

Former Army Chief General Manoj Naravane and MP Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi – Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi had read excerpts from former Army Chief General Manoj Naravane’s autobiography in Parliament. It drew a lot of opposition from the ruling MPs. Now the book’s publishing house ‘Penguin Random House India’ has given a formal explanation. The publishers have claimed that they have the exclusive publishing rights of the book titled ‘Four Stars of Destiny’, the autobiography of General Manoj Naravane. They also clarified that the book has not been published in any form yet. This stand was personally endorsed by General Naravane himself on the evening of 10 February. In a post on ‘X’, he stated that the position clarified by the publishing house accurately reflects the current status of the book.

The publishing house stated that no copies of the book have been published, distributed, sold or otherwise made available to the public in any way in print or digital form. Any version currently in circulation – in whole or in part, in any form, would constitute copyright infringement. Penguin Random House India has also warned that legal action would be taken against such unauthorized distribution.

What is the matter ?

According to Rahul Gandhi, the book ‘Four Stars of Destiny’ contains facts that will be inconvenient for the Government regarding the clash between India and China on the Ladakh border in 2020. Rahul Gandhi had read out some excerpts from this book in Parliament. The Modi Government had left the decision to General Naravane on whether to open fire at the Chinese soldiers or not, he claimed.

Editorial Perspective

In that case, the publishing house should initiate an action against Rahul Gandhi. If the house does not do so, the Police should register a case against the publishing house along with Rahul Gandhi who made pro-China statements.
