Chief Justice of India’s remarks over the assault on an advocate in a Delhi Court

Supreme Court, Chief Justice Suryakant

New Delhi – A serious incident of an attack on an advocate by goons has come to light in the premises of the Tis Hazari Court here. Reportedly, the incident took place right in front of the judges, which has raised serious questions about the security arrangements in the Court premises. When this matter was raised in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Suryakant expressed serious concern. ‘Goonda raj will not be accepted in the Courts under any circumstances. Strict action will be taken against the guilty. There will be no compromise on the reputation and security of the Court premises. The concerned authorities will be instructed to take necessary steps,’ he said. After this incident, advocates have demanded increased security within the Court premises and strict action against the guilty. The investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Has the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court been informed : CJI questions the advocate

On February 9th, 2026, the victim’s lawyer presented the case before the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice then asked whether the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court had been informed about this incident.

The Chief Justice directed the victim’s advocate to submit a formal written complaint to the Delhi High Court and attach a copy of the complaint to himself.

What are the allegations ?

The victim’s lawyer said that he was appearing on behalf of an accused in the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Harjit Singh Pal. At that time, the lawyer of the complainant party allegedly entered the Courtroom along with several people and attacked and beat him up in front of the judge. The lawyer has alleged that the attackers locked the door of the Courtroom from inside and committed violent acts in the presence of the judge. A demand has been made for judicial intervention and ensuring security in this matter.

Editorial Perspective

An advocate being assaulted right in the Court premises is a sign of the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi. Those who beat up advocates today can beat up judges tomorrow.
