Dhaka (Bangladesh) – ‘The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council and its members are like former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s pet dogs’, Shafiqul Alam, chief adviser and media secretary to interim government chief Muhammad Yunus, said in an outrageous statement during an interview.

Only one Hindu killed out of religious hatred

Speaking about attacks on the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, Alam claimed that over the past one year, only one murder has occurred due to religious hatred, that of Dipu Chandra Das. He also accused Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League of portraying every killing of a Hindu as religious violence.

When asked about the Hindu minority community releasing data on rising crime, Alam said, “The leaders of such organisations are affiliated with the Awami League. Not a single incident in the data presented qualifies as a killing out of religious hatred. Most cases occurred due to robbery or personal disputes.”

India should not treat Bangladesh like Bhutan

India should not treat Bangladesh like Bhutan. (If India decides to do so, Bangladesh would be forced to live in hunger and starvation—this is something Alam should remember. – Editor) Alam also said that despite open irregularities in elections during Hasina’s tenure, people know which country supported her. He further claimed that Sheikh Hasina, while staying outside the country, is instigating the people of Bangladesh.

Alam alleged that the murder of Usman Hadi was carried out by supporters of the Awami League, Sheikh Hasina’s party. According to available reports, he also claimed that a senior Awami League leader funded Hadi’s killing.

Editorial Perspective

If India were to say that Bangladesh’s interim government is behaving like America’s pet dog, it would not be incorrect.
