Statement of Shahbaz Sharif; Prime Minister of Pakistan – a country living on debt

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Pakistan has been running on debt for the last several years. It is not easy to ask for a loan; Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that he along with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir went to many countries and presented the pathetic situation of Pakistan there.
Shahbaz Sharif further said that Pakistan had to explain to these countries what difficult phase they were going through. The demand for billions of dollars of loans was made only after explaining why the IMF program was necessary.
With borrowings come many responsibilities and pressure. Lending countries lay many conditions; in such a situation, no matter how uncomfortable the situation is, the government has to agree to some things while maintaining self-respect. China helped Pakistan the most in difficult times, and Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar also supported Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif said that he had assured the IMF chief that the government would fully comply with the agreement. Only then IMF delegation worked together with Pakistan. Because of this very reason the country could save itself from bankruptcy, he further said.
