95 Temples attacked and 66 Hindus murdered in Bangladesh last year

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Last year in Bangladesh, there were attacks on 95 temples and 66 Hindus murdered.

The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council claimed that 522 incidents of religious violence took place in Bangladesh in the year 2025. In this, 66 people died, and there were attacks on 95 temples and spiritual centres. The interim Government had said that only 71 incidents of violence were of a religious nature.

Unity Council gave information at a press conference about how they were targeting minority communities. The Council’s Executive Secretary, Monindra Kumar Nath presented the statistics compiled on the basis of media reports. According to these statistics, 28 incidents of atrocities, including rape and gang rape against women, were reported. 102 houses and shops were destroyed. Land and property were seized in 66 cases. 38 people kidnapped, 47 death threats, and 36 arrested on false charges of blasphemy.

Religious violence in January 2026

They recorded 42 new violent incidents between 1 January and 27 January, 2026. During these days, there were 11 murders. They attacked temples and churches for 9 times. The minority community was under the shadow of fear. The Government and the Election Commission would be held responsible if people were afraid to vote.

While clarifying the Government’s stand, Monindra Kumar Nath said that according to the Government’s definition, murder, rape or burning of houses could not be counted as religious because they took place outside the premises of a temple. This was a deception perpetrated against the minorities.

While referring to the arrest of prominent Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, as well as the cases filed against other leaders, there was an allegation that the Government itself was committing crimes.
