Karwar (Karnataka) – Faizan Khan Sheikh (age 18 years) set fire to the house of a Hindu individual in Devar Hakkal in Kumta Taluka of North Kanara District. The accused wanted to create an environment of fear in the village by setting fire to the house. The locals thrashed him and handed him over to the Police. The police are now investigating the matter. Dinkar and his family residents of Devar Hakkal had gone to the Jatra (fair) of the Shri Venkatraman in Kumta.

Taking advantage of this Faizan Jaffar Sheikh set fire to Dinkar’s house on the night of 27 January. When the residents realised this, they caught the accused and informed the Police. Police rushed to the site and took Faizan into custody. The presence of mind of the residents saved the situation. But this incident has created tension in Devar Hakkal. The Police Commissioner of North Kanara district rushed to the site on getting information of the incident. The accused Faizan Sheikh lives in the neighbourhood and he did this out of some old dispute, Police investigation revealed.
