Another Hindu youth burnt alive in Bangladesh

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – In an outrageous incident, another Hindu youth has been burnt alive in Bangladesh. The deceased is identified as Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik, and he was a resident of Lakshmipur village in Comilla District. The incident occurred on the night of Friday, 23 January. Bangladeshi journalist Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury shared detailed information about the incident through a post on social media.

1. Chanchal Bhowmik had been working at Rubel Mia’s garage in Narsingdi for the past six years and was also living there. According to information provided by locals, after finishing work on the night of 23 January, Chanchal slept inside the garage. Nearby CCTV footage shows a person pouring petrol late at night and setting the garage on fire. After igniting the fire, the person remained at the spot for a considerable time. The video clearly indicates that the individual left only after it was certain that Chanchal had died.

2. After the death of Chanchal Bhowmik’s father, the entire responsibility of the household had fallen on him. His mother is ill, and he has a brother who is differently abled (disabled). Chanchal’s family has alleged that this was a murder. Some locals, speaking on condition of anonymity, have expressed suspicion that Chanchal was killed for religious reasons.

Fear among the Hindu Community

This incident has created an atmosphere of fear among Hindu organisations and ordinary Hindus in Bangladesh. Hindu organisations have expressed strong displeasure over the incident. Earlier, Dipu Chandra Das was burnt alive and killed in Mymensingh. Subsequently, Khokon Chandra Das was murdered in Shariatpur, and now Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik has been burnt alive in Narsingdi.

Editorial Perspectives

  • The killings of Hindus in Bangladesh will not stop until Hindus are completely wiped out, and no one will even attempt to stop them—this is a matter of shame for Hindus.
  • When even Hindu-majority India does not take note of the killings of Hindus in Bangladesh, will international human rights commissions ever take cognisance of them?
